We had Nokia's Midsummer party yesterday. Midsummer is very important annual event in Nordic countries. Everyone celebrate the longest day light. Sunshine was the gift and it was actually one of hottest day in the past months. Nokia rent the space in Kaisaniemi park, one large park near the Helsinki rail station. If I explain to Japanese friends, the idea is to rent the Ueno park and invite all employees, working in greater Tokyo area. When I worked for IBM Japan, we got Tokyo Disneyland for private use in one of weekdays. It was open for 15,000+ employees and their family members. It was fun to see everyone you know wherever you walked in Disneyland, but no need to be in a queue for Big Thunder mountain or other attractions at all. I don't know how many employees the party gathered yesterday, but there were a number of people, maybe some thousands. I recall at least 3 to 4 times more people from what you see in the first picture. I've been working in this company over 12 years, but could not see many whom I know. Maybe one sign of aging (in the company)...
The party started at 3 pm and we continued having beer till 7pm in the park. There were shuttle buses to send us to another park - which I introduced in my Sunday jogging blog - and we continued the party under blue sky till late. Here is one pic with my colleagues who shared the last glass (of Champagne) :-) FYI, I am not drunk!
